If you're an experienced auditor looking to take real ownership of client engagements, this is a role where your technical expertise and leadership skills will genuinely matter. Our client, a well-regarded accountancy practice, is looking for an Audit Senior to lead end-to-end audit assignments across a varied and interesting client portfolio. You'll work closely with clients, guide junior team members, and play a central part in delivering high-quality, compliant audit work from planning right through to sign-off. This is a role for someone who takes pride in doing things properly, enjoys the complexity of technical audit work, and is ready to grow into a broader leadership position.

What you'll be doing:

  • Leading audit engagements from initial planning through to final sign-off, including complex areas such as acquisitions, disposals, restructures, long-term contract accounting, and overseas subsidiaries.
  • Interpreting and applying group and component auditor requirements under ISA 600, whether acting as group auditor or component auditor.
  • Reviewing financial statements and assessing internal controls to ensure accuracy and compliance with UK accounting standards and the Companies Act.
  • Managing audit budgets, tracking progress against plan, and keeping managers informed of any overruns or additional service requirements.
  • Conducting and leading planning, progress, and completion meetings, ensuring all key matters are clearly understood by the engagement team.
  • Supervising and supporting junior team members, providing structured training and timely, constructive feedback.
  • Setting up well-considered testing approaches for first-year audits, with a clear focus on identified risks.
  • Identifying opportunities to improve audit testing methodology, with audit quality and efficiency as guiding principles.
  • Handling client communications professionally, including managing and resolving challenging feedback where it arises.
  • Independently assessing risk and interpreting the impact of group reorganisations and other complex transactions on audit approach and financial reporting.

What we're looking for:

  • Studying towards or holding a recognised accountancy qualification (ACA, ACCA, CA) or qualified by equivalent practical experience.
  • Solid experience gained within an accountancy practice environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of UK auditing and accounting standards, along with relevant Companies Act requirements.
  • Demonstrable ability to lead complex audit assignments independently.
  • Confident communicator with proven client management skills.
  • Effective at planning, prioritising, and managing multiple workstreams simultaneously.
  • Capable of supervising junior staff and taking accountability for team workflow and output.

Nice to have:

  • Practical experience applying ISA 600 requirements in a group or component auditor context.
  • Exposure to IFRS, overseas subsidiary audits, or acquisition and contract accounting.
  • Experience setting up and leading first-year audit engagements.
