Alameda is the next generation control plane as a service operating more than 14 AWS Services. Just like EC2, EBS, and RDS modernized compute, storage and databases, Alameda provides a modernized AWS scaled and secured building blocks (API, Workflows, Telemetry...) that lets developers focus on writing core business value. Alameda removes the undifferentiated lift of writing services, while simultaneously providing secure by default, AWS scaled runtime services.

We are looking for a leader who is passionate about developing the flagship building blocks that will be used to develop the next generation of AWS services. In this role, you will lead a team of engineers owning the entire product and engineer lifecycle from conception to delivery advancing the foundational systems used to run and operate AWS services. As a Software Development Manager in Alameda, you will work as part of the larger engineering team and customers to drive broad adoption and change. This role involves creating and leading a long term strategic roadmap, collaborating with AWS Services on roadmap priorities, growing and leading a team of talented engineers, and leaving your personal mark on the future of development in AWS.

  • Guide teams in software engineering practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
  • Make architectural decisions and understand systems design at scale.
  • Solve problems at their root, stepping back to understand broader context.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience.
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience.
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience.
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations.
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers.
