Are you a collaborative data professional who enjoys helping people build confidence in using data and creating the conditions for trusted, informed decision-making? Do you have strong relationship-building skills, sound judgment, and the ability to make technical concepts clear and useful? Alberta Precision Labs (APL) has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Consultant, Data Intelligence & Governance. In this role you will lead initiatives that advance organizational capabilities in data literacy, stewardship, and governance.

Utilize your strong communication skills as you build relationships in this highly collaborative role. Here you’ll collaborate with operational teams, analytics professionals, subject matter experts, and leaders to improve data quality, clarify ownership and stewardship, build shared data definitions, and create learning experiences that help people use data with confidence. This position offers a high degree of autonomy, broad organizational reach, and opportunities to influence lasting improvements in data practices.

Use your demonstrated ability to lead change, build alignment, and explain complex or ambiguous information in clear, business-friendly language. This role provides opportunities to apply your understanding of database structures, data models and system data flows, along with your ability to analyze source data. Your technical and analytical expertise will support the identification of patterns and the presentation of data in meaningful ways. You will also have regular opportunities to showcase your experience with effective change management principles and practices. This role will primarily work remotely, with occasional onsite meeting requirements. Initial term is six months, with potential for extension.

The Senior Consultant provides subject matter expertise and independently leads assigned cross-functional initiatives within the Data Literacy and Data Governance portfolios. You will advise teams on approved governance frameworks, standards, stewardship models, accountability structures, metadata, business glossaries, enterprise definitions, and data quality improvement.

You will design, deliver, and evaluate data literacy learning, tools, workshops, assessments, and role-based learning experiences. You will build partnerships, identify business needs, facilitate working groups and consensus-building discussions, and support change and adoption. You will lead projects by setting plans and priorities, coordinating activities, monitoring deliverables, managing risks and dependencies, and presenting recommendations and updates.

Working with a high degree of independence, you will apply professional judgment to complex and non-standard situations and recommend practical improvements that advance organizational data maturity.

Required Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary degree in information management, data analytics, business administration, health information management, computer science, or a related field.
  • Minimum three years of experience in data governance, data literacy, data quality management, or a similar role, including experience leading cross-functional governance projects.
  • Experience using an enterprise data catalogue to improve data discoverability, metadata management, data lineage, and access to trusted data assets.
  • Experience using data visualization and reporting tools such as Tableau or Power BI and using Snowflake to access, analyze, and validate data.
  • Experience with the Data Management Association's Data Management Body of Knowledge.

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Experience with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, and Copilot.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certified Data Management Professional designation or equivalent education or certification in data governance, data management, data quality, or information management.
  • Experience with Epic Beaker or Cogito tools, including Reporting Workbench, SlicerDicer, Clarity, or Caboodle.
  • Experience using Atlan to manage metadata, document data assets, establish data ownership, and track data lineage.
