The Human Factors Specialist is part of a provincial Patient Safety team that provides leadership in promoting best practices in usability, patient safety and eSafety (electronic health systems).
A successful candidate will have strong analytical, interpersonal, and collaboration skills, with a passion for usability and a creative eye for excellent design. Human Factors Specialists evaluate room designs, work-flow, equipment, user interfaces, information systems, paper and electronic forms and other patient safety related aspects of healthcare. This involves working with end users (e.g., front line clinicians) to collect user requirements through observation, job shadowing, interviews and focus group techniques.
Human Factors Specialists use quantitative and qualitative methods to analyze data. They prepare detailed reports, presentations and prototypes of human factors evaluation results and design recommendations; incorporating patient simulation into evaluation methodologies when applicable. Human Factors Specialists also provide timely consultation and advice to help address emerging patient safety issues.
