We currently operate three mines – two in Canada and one in Mexico – and we have a strong portfolio of development stage projects.

Join the Island Gold District team and be a part of the long-life mining operations, as we prioritize our employee growth, high performance and a culture of safety and accountability.

Role Overview/Purpose: The Electrical Planner will develop safe, detailed, and executable maintenance plans for surface electrical assets and infrastructure to support the reliable operation of power distribution systems, substations, buildings, shops, conveyors, pumps, dewatering systems, lighting, communications networks, and other surface facilities. Coordinate labour, materials, tools, permits, documentation, and contractor requirements to ensure all work is fully prepared before scheduling.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Build job plans from approved work requests, inspections, preventive maintenance tasks, and equipment strategies.
  • Define job scope, work steps, estimated labour hours, crew size, required competencies, tools, test equipment, parts, and consumables.
  • Identify hazards and planning controls, including isolation points, lockout/tagout requirements, permits, switching requirements, arc-flash boundaries, grounding, fall protection, and access needs.
  • Prepare electrical drawings, single-line diagrams, schematics, manuals, photographs, bills of material, checklists, and other job-package documents.
  • Conduct field walkdowns with supervisors, electricians, engineering, operations, reliability, and contractors to validate scope and site conditions.
  • Create and maintain accurate work orders, task lists, bills of material, equipment records, and planning data in the computerized maintenance management system.
  • Check inventory and initiate reservations, purchase requests, repair orders, or contractor scopes early enough to support the schedule.
  • Develop plans for corrective, preventive, predictive, shutdown, project, and emergency follow-up work.
  • Maintain a ready backlog by confirming that work is fully scoped, risk assessed, resourced, and released for scheduling.
  • Support weekly scheduling and shutdown preparation by identifying job dependencies, operating constraints, outage windows, and critical-path activities.
  • Review completed work orders, capture feedback and actual hours, update reusable job plans, and address recurring planning gaps.
  • Monitor planning quality, backlog health, schedule readiness, material availability, and maintenance costs; recommend improvements.

What You Bring to the Table:

  • Electrical trade certification, electrical engineering technology diploma, or equivalent combination of education and industrial experience.
  • Several years of electrical maintenance experience in mining, heavy industry, utilities, or a comparable operating environment.
  • Working knowledge of surface power distribution, substations, motor control centres, variable-frequency drives, motors, protection systems, generators, grounding, instrumentation, and industrial controls.
  • Experience planning maintenance work and using a computerized maintenance management system; SAP experience is an asset.
  • Ability to interpret single-line diagrams, schematics, electrical drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
  • Knowledge of applicable electrical codes, site standards, safe-work procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Strong computer skills, including spreadsheets, document preparation, and maintenance reporting.
  • Valid driver’s licence and ability to access active surface facilities.

Working Conditions:

  • The ideal candidate for the role will work a rotation of 4 days on, 3 days off.
  • Comply with all site health, safety, environmental, and electrical safety requirements.
  • Split time between office planning and field verification in shops, substations, process areas, yards, and other surface locations.
  • Wear required personal protective equipment and work around mobile equipment, weather exposure, noise, dust, heights, and energized-equipment boundaries.
  • Participate in shutdown support or urgent planning activities outside normal hours when required.
