About Agilno

At Agilno, we have spent the last 10 years building digital products for product-led North American companies. We collaborate closely with our partners to plan, design, and optimize software that brings actual, measurable value to users. Our engineering team is made up of people who genuinely care about technology and are always exploring how to build stable, scalable software using modern tooling and solid engineering practices.

Position Overview

We are looking for a Senior Java Developer to join our team in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) on a hybrid basis. This role focuses heavily on backend architecture and feature development using Java and Spring Boot (accounting for roughly 80–90% of your time). For the remaining 10–20%, you will jump into the frontend with React and TypeScript to help us ship complete, end-to-end features. Operating on Toronto time, you will work on a document-heavy application utilized across web, mobile, and Microsoft Office apps, as well as by our integration partners. Your day-to-day will involve building robust public and internal REST APIs, optimizing core document workflows, and integrating practical AI features powered by AWS-hosted Large Language Models (LLMs).

Key Responsibilities

  • API Development: Design, build, and maintain stable, scalable public and internal REST APIs using Java and Spring Boot across web, mobile, and MS Office platforms.
  • Core Systems: Own and evolve service features managing complex document handling, access permissions, notifications, and real-time data syncs.
  • AI Integration: Contribute to our AI roadmap by connecting document workflows with intelligent searches, conversational chat assistants, and automated insights leveraging LLMs on AWS.
  • Full-Stack Coverage: Develop and refresh UI components in React and TypeScript whenever full-stack feature delivery calls for it.
  • Workflow Automation: Incorporate practical AI tools into your daily workflow to handle repetitive tasks—from boilerplate and test generation to internal processes—and share what works with the team.
  • Code Quality & Delivery: Write clean, automated tests, engage in thoughtful peer code reviews, and ship production-ready code through our CI/CD pipelines across development, staging, and production environments.
  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate directly with Product, QA, and other developers to spot potential constraints early and map out well-scoped, secure features.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience: 3+ years of professional software development experience, with Java as your primary, go-to language.
  • Backend Ecosystems: Hands-on experience building out production-grade REST APIs within the Spring Boot framework (including Spring Security, Maven, or equivalents).
  • Frontend Foundations: Working knowledge of React and TypeScript—enough to comfortably build, alter, or debug user-facing screens without needing hands-on guidance.
  • Databases: Solid experience working with MongoDB or equivalent NoSQL / SQL database management systems.
  • AI Tooling: Familiarity with AI coding assistants (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Claude Code, Cursor) or experience working directly with LLM API integrations.
  • Engineering Practices: Clear understanding of Git branching workflows, code review etiquette, automated testing strategies, and modern CI/CD pipelines.
  • Collaboration: A proactive communication style—you raise roadblocks early, actively propose architecture adjustments, and enjoy helping teammates solve complex problems.
  • Communication: Full professional fluency in written and spoken English.

Location & Schedule

Based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and fully comfortable working a hybrid schedule matching the Toronto (Eastern) time zone.

Why Join Us?

  • Impactful Work: Build real-world AI capabilities on top of large language models and enjoy the freedom to use advanced developer productivity tools daily.
  • Transparent Compensation: A straightforward salary structure accompanied by performance-tied bonuses.
  • Continuous Learning: Access to dedicated budgets for external courses/conferences, structured internal training, and technical workshops.
  • Hybrid Flexibility: A healthy balance of remote work flexibility and in-person team collaboration in the GTA, with flexible core working hours.
  • Comprehensive Benefits: Robust health insurance plans along with 20 days of paid time off (PTO) annually.
  • North American Scale: Direct exposure and collaboration with fast-paced, product-led companies across the continent.
