Acuren Group is recruiting an Engineer in Training (EIT) to join our Mechanical Integrity and Reliability Engineering team. Acuren is one of North America's largest providers of integrated inspection, testing, and engineering services, with 110+ locations serving clients across the power generation, oil & gas, petrochemical, and heavy industrial sectors. In this role, you will be embedded in active asset integrity programs, working alongside senior engineers, NDT technicians, and rope access personnel to help industrial clients manage the long-term reliability and safety of their critical mechanical systems. This is a technically hands-on position with direct site exposure and a clear development path toward API certification and independent program ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Support the execution and ongoing development of mechanical integrity programs for high-energy piping systems, storage tanks, pressure vessels, and related process equipment in industrial plant environments.
  • Assist in managing Mechanical Integrity programs, including inspection planning, data trending, condition monitoring, and corrosion rate analysis.
  • Create and issue detailed work packages for inspection activities, coordinating scope, access requirements, applicable codes, and acceptance criteria.
  • Perform risk assessments and support work planning to prioritize inspection activities in alignment with client risk tolerance and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and assess NDT inspection reports, identify anomalies, develop engineering recommendations, and track corrective actions.
  • Support the development and maintenance of Risk-Based Inspection (RBI) programs per API 580/581 for piping, pressure vessels, and storage tanks.
  • Assist in performing fitness-for-service (FFS) assessments per API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 for degraded or damaged equipment.
  • Progress toward obtaining API 510 (Pressure Vessel Inspector), API 570 (Piping Inspector), and API 653 (Aboveground Storage Tank Inspector) certifications, with the expectation of conducting and leading API inspections as qualifications are obtained.
  • Identify reliability improvement opportunities and contribute to maintenance strategy development for rotating and static equipment.
  • Travel to client plant sites to provide direct oversight of NDT and rope access field activities during scheduled outages and turnarounds; field travel is expected up to 25% of the time.
  • Act as a field coordinator and point of contact for inspection crews on site, ensuring work is executed safely, on schedule, and within scope.
  • Support project management functions for multi-discipline inspection programs, including scheduling, resource coordination, progress tracking, and client reporting.
  • Prepare and deliver professional engineering reports documenting inspection findings, risk assessments, and actionable recommendations.
  • Proactively engage with clients to understand program requirements, communicate findings, and identify opportunities to add value.

Requirements

  • University degree in Mechanical Engineering; Chemical, Mechanical, or Materials Engineering considered with relevant coursework.
  • Membership in, or eligibility for, the applicable provincial engineering association; registration as an EIT required.
  • Interest in or exposure to pressure equipment integrity, piping systems, or industrial inspection through co-op, coursework, or prior employment is strongly preferred.
  • Familiarity with ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, ASME B31.1/B31.3, API standards, and related pressure equipment codes is an asset.
  • Knowledge of NDT methodologies (UT, RT, MT, PT, TOFD, phased array) and their application to integrity assessment is an asset.
  • API 510, 570, or 653 certification (or progress toward) is an asset but not required — Acuren will support candidates through the certification process.
  • Strong analytical and organizational skills; ability to manage inspection data, track program deliverables, and synthesize findings into clear recommendations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to produce professional client-ready reports and liaise effectively with field crews and client stakeholders.
  • Comfortable working in active industrial plant environments (power stations, refineries, chemical facilities) and complying with site-specific safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of, and commitment to, applicable provincial Occupational Health and Safety legislation, ISO systems, and Acuren's Safety and Quality Management Systems.
