49 Solutions is seeking an experienced Senior OpenStack Cloud Engineer / Architect to support a large-scale Government of Canada cloud environment for Shared Services Canada and the Department of National Defence. The ideal candidate is a hands-on OpenStack specialist who has direct experience deploying, supporting, troubleshooting, and providing technical guidance within complex OpenStack environments. This is not purely an advisory architecture role. The resource will be expected to work directly with the technical team to support deployment and resolve complex OpenStack issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide technical guidance for the deployment of OpenStack at scale.
- Assist directly with the deployment and implementation of OpenStack solutions.
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues across the OpenStack technology stack.
- Provide architectural and technical guidance for OpenStack environments.
- Support the design and implementation of:
- Provider networks
- Role-Based Access Control (RBAC)
- Tenant isolation
- Operational procedures
- Troubleshoot OpenStack scheduling and infrastructure issues.
- Support OpenStack networking and connectivity.
- Assist with hardware bootstrapping and infrastructure provisioning, where required.
Minimum Qualifications
- 10 years of professional IT experience.
- Strong hands-on experience deploying OpenStack in large-scale environments.
- Demonstrated experience with OpenStack administration, configuration, deployment, and ongoing support.
- Strong experience troubleshooting complex technical issues across the OpenStack technology stack.
- Experience providing OpenStack architectural and technical guidance.
- Experience with OpenStack networking, multi-tenancy, network segmentation, provider networks, RBAC, tenant isolation, and workload connectivity.
- Understanding of OpenStack scheduling and troubleshooting, including NoValidHost failures.
- Experience with hardware bootstrapping and/or bare-metal infrastructure.
- Experience with OpenStack storage technologies and concepts, ideally including Ceph, Cinder, Glance and/or Swift.
Highly Desirable
- Previous experience working within the Government of Canada / federal government environment.
- Previous experience working within a federally regulated organization, such as banking, telecommunications, transportation, or another highly regulated environment.
- Experience supporting large, complex production infrastructure where security, reliability, governance, and operational requirements are critical.
- Must have a Level II Secret Security Clearance issued by PSPC.
What We're Looking For
We're particularly interested in candidates who can demonstrate what they have personally deployed, configured, and troubleshot in OpenStack, rather than candidates whose experience has been limited to high-level cloud strategy or oversight. Experience supporting large, complex production OpenStack environments and providing both hands-on technical support and architectural guidance would be particularly relevant.
